Create and Edit Properties in HubSpot

A step-by-step guide for creating and editing properties in HubSpot.

Properties store information on HubSpot records, such as contact details, company locations, or deal statuses. You can use default properties or create custom properties to fit your needs.

Create a Custom Property
  1. Click the Settings ⚙️ icon (top navigation).
  2. In the left sidebar, go to Properties.
  3. Click Select an object, then choose [Object] properties (e.g., Contact, Company, Deal).
  4. Click Create property (top right).
  5. Enter the Property Label (e.g., "Industry Type").
  6. Choose the Field Type (e.g., Single-line text, Dropdown, Number).
  7. (Optional) Customize settings such as:
    • Business Unit (if applicable).
    • Associations with other records.
    • Unique value enforcement to avoid creating duplicate entries.
  8. Click Create to save the property.

Edit an Existing Property
  1. Go to Settings > Properties.
  2. Select the object (e.g., Contacts, Deals).
  3. Use the search bar or filters to find the property.
  4. Hover over it and click Edit.
  5. Modify Field Type, Rules, or Access Permissions (some changes may delete existing data).
  6. Click Save.

Clone a Property
  1. In Properties, find the property you want to duplicate.
  2. Hover over it and click Clone.
  3. Modify the details and click Create.
Tip: Always check if a default property meets your needs before creating a custom one!
